# Freefall > Freefall is a platform for running live falling-price drops (descending-price, or Dutch, auctions) on real products. A merchant sets a starting price, a private floor price and a quantity; the price falls in real time for every shopper at once, each fall can reset to the top at random, and shoppers lock the current price to buy it. Key facts: - For independent stores, brands, collectible shops, boutiques and multi-location businesses. - Sell on a hosted page (freefall.app/your-store) or embed drops on a website with a snippet (Shopify, WordPress, Squarespace, Webflow, custom HTML). - Prices never go below the merchant's floor. How falling-price sales work for online stores](https://freefallexchange.com/guides/what-is-a-dutch-auction): A Dutch auction is a sale where the price starts high and falls over time until someone buys. The first buyer to accept the current price gets the item at that price. Online stores use it to sell limited stock fast: eager buyers pay more, patient buyers risk missing out. - [How to run a limited product drop that sells out](https://freefallexchange.com/guides/how-to-run-a-product-drop): To run a product drop, pick a limited quantity of one product, announce a start time, and sell it in a short window. A falling-price drop adds tension: the price drops live for everyone, so fans buy early and the rest decide what it's worth. Tell your audience in advance, then share one link. - [How to set a floor price for a falling-price sale (and protect your margin)](https://freefallexchange.com/guides/how-to-set-a-floor-price): Set the floor at the lowest price you'd be happy to sell every unit for, usually your cost plus the margin you need after fees. Set the starting price near full retail. The gap between them is the drop's range: wider ranges create more excitement, narrower ones protect margin. - [Falling-price drops vs. flash sales and discount codes](https://freefallexchange.com/guides/falling-price-drops-vs-flash-sales): A flash sale or discount code gives every buyer the same reduced price, including people who'd have paid full price. A falling-price drop starts near full price and falls live, so eager buyers pay more and price-sensitive buyers pay less. You sell out with less discounting overall. - [How to sell excess inventory without training shoppers to wait for sales](https://freefallexchange.com/guides/sell-excess-inventory): To sell excess inventory without devaluing your brand, sell it in limited, time-boxed events instead of permanent markdowns. A falling-price drop works well: list the batch with a floor at your minimum acceptable price, share one link, and let buyers compete while the price falls. ## Industries - [Streetwear & sneakers](https://freefallexchange.com/industries/streetwear-and-sneakers): Run limited streetwear and sneaker releases as live falling-price drops. Freefall is a platform for running live falling-price drops, also called Dutch auctions, on real products. A store sets a starting price and a hidden floor; the price falls in real time for every shopper at once, and the first people to lock a price they like buy at that price. - How does a falling-price drop work? You set a starting price, a hidden floor price and a quantity. The price falls in real time, the same for every shopper. A shopper who likes the current price locks it, which holds that price while they pay. Each fall can reset to the top at random, and the drop runs until it sells out or you end it. - Can shoppers wait for the lowest price? Not reliably. Each fall lasts a random length and can reset to the top at any moment, so waiting for the bottom risks losing the item to someone else or watching the price jump back up. Shoppers buy when the price is right for them. - Does Freefall work with Shopify, WordPress and other website builders? Yes. Paid plans embed drops on any website with a short snippet, including Shopify, WordPress, Squarespace and Webflow. Every plan also includes a hosted Freefall page, so you can sell without a website. - How much does Freefall cost? Freefall is free on one store with unlimited live drops and a platform fee per sale. Paid plans start at $29 a month, lower the fee, and add embedding, more stores and team roles. Each extra store costs less than the first. - Who handles refunds and returns? The merchant, under their own policy. Merchants issue refunds and answer disputes from their Freefall console. ## Optional - [Live demo store](https://freefallexchange.com/atlas): a store with drops falling live. - [Terms of Service](https://freefallexchange.com/terms) - [Start free](https://freefallexchange.com/account/register)
